We’re approaching the end the third week of WISE school 2010. We’ve had a great time together as a group, lots of laughs, sharing, and learning already.

Last week Ted, one of our staff, taught about “Identity in Christ,” and did a great job of leading the group to consider how understanding who we are in Christ affects how we treat other people and engage with this world.
This week we visited a Jewish synagogue, Muslim mosque and a Hare Krishna temple during our “Comparative Religions” week. As we chatted with these religious leaders, we were honored by their hospitality and warmth, and challenged by their personal honesty as they shared about their journey.
There’s the saying, “Nobody cares what you know unless they know you care.” During these visits, our challenge was to listen in a desire to understand their viewpoint and build relational bridges, as opposed to assuming our “rightness” and trying to convince anyone of anything. I was proud to be part of a group that sincerely cared about each religious leader we met, and shared love through great questions and listening ears.
Also, thanks Casey for skyping in this week. Your insights about living in Thailand fueled our thoughts and conversations throughout the week.

Tomorrow kicks off WISE school 2010 at YWAM Denver. I (Brent) will be leading this school of 6 students (5 Americans, 1 Korean). Also beginning tomorrow are the Boarders’ DTS and regular DTS. We’ll have a total around 50 students joining us for the winter quarter.

Pray that this would be an amazing time of growth for our students, and that us as staff would have energy and wisdom to effectively invest in these students’ lives and futures.

Manke family
Brandt family

Twas picture time this Christmas for our family, as my (Brent’s) immediate family drove from across Canada and the continent to be together for a few days, and the extended Brandt family came from around the globe be to all together for Christmas for the first time in eighteen years. Is that picture-worthy or what!
We had a blast spending time with everyone. There’s something about family that’s super cool. I hope you had the chance to appreciate your family and close friends this Christmas.

It’s christmas time in our apartment! It’s hard for us to decorate, seeing as we’re going to be out of town for the 2 weeks leading up to the 25th, but today Anna picked up some lights and ornaments. Yay for christmas lights!

Morning in the City

Ted and I got up early and went into downtown Denver on Saturday to take some photos and meet some people. I posted a couple pics here. We met a man named Tare and he let us take his portrait. An artist, he’s studying computer graphics now because he wants to “make his paintings move.” We enjoyed exploring, chatting, and taking pics.

A friend recommended a podcast for the upcoming WISE school. I just listened to “War-Torn Creation” by Greg Boyd (go here and look down the list to 7/15/07 for slides and study guide).
I love how Boyd talks about spiritual warfare on a larger scale, in a way that affects with our whole life and the whole world (although that also makes it a little uncomfortable cause it gets personal). He talks about how fighting disease and poverty, taking care of animals and the environment, all of that is spiritual warfare.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

Wow, can't believe it's still the weekend! We've enjoyed four days of
lots of eating, meeting up with friends and just relaxing. Earlier in
the week we sent off Anna's Canadian residency paperwork, so the huge
weight off our shoulders made the weekend all the more enjoyable.

Thursday we had a feast at a family's place, Bob and Lonna Davis'. We
got to help cook a couple of dishes, and joined in eating with about
20 people! Fun times.

The rest of the weekend has included meeting up with other friends,
and going to see the Nutcracker on Saturday (Boulder Ballet and
Boulder Philharmonic, really cool!). Today we're about to embark on
our first Christmas-gift shopping expedition (wish us luck!).

Isn't Thanksgiving such a great holiday? We were reflecting on the
beauty of it, no required gifts to buy, no commercial craze, no
confusion about the "real meaning of Thanksgiving", just family, food
and gratitude. May we be grateful for the chance to enjoy the people
close to us and reflect on our Father who's so good to us.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving (you too, Canadians, even though
yours was a while back already!).

Here’s a moving short documentary about the Karen people living along the Burma and Thailand border, produced by a good friend.

hello friends,
Hope you’re doing well. We’re well in fall here in Denver. A couple weeks ago we had 2 feet of snow, which disappeared quickly, but woke us up to the reality of the changing seasons!
The pregnancy is going well. Last week we had our 20-week ultrasound, and found out that we’re going to be having a girl! We’re super excited. Anna is doing her to keep herself from buying every cute little baby dress out there :-) .
Things are busy with YWAM, as we have 109 students enrolled in 6 different training schools! The is the largest group we’ve had in quite some time. Anna and I are not working directly with the schools, but Anna is coordinating their local weekly outreaches, as well as working in the registrar department. I am preparing for the WISE school which starts in January, as well as working in our graphic design department.
The big news in design-wise this week is the launch of the new YWAM Denver website! It’s been a lot of work getting the site ready to go, but we’re excited that it’s finally up. Check it out at http://www.ywamdenver.org.
Please pray for us, that Anna would continue to have a smooth and healthy pregnancy.
Also, as some of you know, we are making preparations to move to Canada next spring, and are beginning to apply for Anna’s permanent residence in Canada. Although not a too complicated process, it has been quite a process collecting all the right paperwork. Please pray that this process would go smoothly and quickly. We would love to complete this process before we move. Also, if you have any questions about our transition, please email me.
Thanks so much for your friendship, prayers and support!
love brent&anna
